Project Specification:

The lightweight control pods will meet the following specification:

sufficient size to conceal two technicians in sitting position

technicians must be hidden for an arc of at least 110 degrees

the pods must be designed to suit the stage backdrop

stage backdrops must be designed to suit the particular bracket of band songs.

General Information:

The bands appearing in this series of concerts involve extensive use of special effects including technicolour fog, flame illumination and stage zoom (where the band appears to become smaller as they fade into the distance). Technicians control these effects while hidden from the audience in small lightweight ‘control pods’ on the stage. The control pods must blend in with the stage theme (including band numbers) and be ‘matched’ with the with the image projected as a back drop for the band. Designers are asked to present images of scale model control pods in position, and showing backdrop images they have designed. The presentation will include the songs that influenced the overall design theme.

Designers are encouraged to discuss design concepts and clarify any questions as they develop their ideas.
