The shape of the futuristic dashboard was made in clay, a plastic mould formed over it, and filled with casting plaster. It was coated with a black colour powder/aqua clear mixture, with some silver metallic powder dry-brushed on the surface.
The dashboard was removed from the image using the freehand 'mask' or 'wand' tool, depending on the graphics program used. The removed image is saved on the clipboard ready for pasting onto a new image.

onto which the dashboard image is placed. The sky looks too white, so this area was selected using the 'select like colours' or 'select contiguous colours' command.
The selected area (all the sky in this case)
was filled with a darker colour, and the 'head up display' put in
place.
The hands , control stick, and navigation panel were added
to complete the image. While it would be possible to 'draw' the
dashboard, it is much better to have a three dimensional model to
photograph.
