Design Project Examples |
This Design Project calls for scale model buildings for a movie. Because the buildings were viewed from one side only, a single wall was sufficient. This reduces production time, while still developing the creative and practical skills.
In this example, the original patterns were made in clay, and white plastic sheet formed over them. The individual sections of formed plastic were then assembled, stuck together with hot-melt glue from behind, and then painted. |
The same process was used here, but the four individual sections of formed plastic were put together to make a mould (you can just see the join lines), and then the mould filled with plaster. The finish was then applied to the plaster casting. |
This old warehouse was made using the same process as the previous one. You can notice the join of the mould down the centre of the door. It is now possible to apply a coating that actually rusts, making this type of facade much more realistic. |
The students display their facades made during a special 'Days of Excellence' program at Corpus Christie College (Brisbane) in 1997. |
