The avec esprit program has a core of four Certificate I Work
Education modules and more
than half of the outcomes can be completed online, with the remaining
outcomes delivered by teachers in their schools. The design and
ICT projects
are unique in that they resemble 'real world' tasks, require no
special equipment or facilities, offer a high level of appeal to
young people, and are consistent with the 'applied learning' emphasis
of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
After completing their design projects and presenting
them to a panel for evaluation, the students prepare for the next
phase. Familiar
with the online learning model used by CDAEG, and with
access to special formbuilding programs, the students prepare teacher resources
for online delivery and auto correction. Students also provide
individual professional development for teachers, and may be engaged
to participate in Flexible Learning Week coordinated by TAFE frontiers.
These fee-for-service activities provide the
context for major skill development that correspond with several accredited VET modules
as well as the VCAL Personal Development outcomes.
The development of teacher skills is a major
aspect of the model, with teachers being supported by workshops
as well as in-person and online program support. The program enables the completion of
Personal Development (Foundation) Unit Two outcomes, as well as four Certificate I Work
Education modules. The unit corresponds with
VCAL curriculum principles, and the Purpose Statement for the strand.
The program is particularly suited to young people
whose pattern of learning is likely to limit their post-school opportunities.
Intervention holds a greater chance of success because it addresses
the individual's view of themselves and their world. While the model appears somewhat
left-field, with its emphasis on ‘non-normal’ learning
experiences such as relaxation, visualisation and emotion
management, these aspects are considered an essential framework for programs
endeavouring to make a difference in personal effectiveness in relationships,
the community and the workplace. |
