The stage prop for the rock concert is a popular choice. One response to the design brief is shown here.
The pattern was shaped in clay and a plastic mould formed over it:
A mixture of aqua clear and specialty pigment (blue/green) was brushed on the outside of the clear plastic. Only the 'high' part were coated. You will notice the stage prop itself has not been cut out - the plastic arund the edge gives you something to hold on to while painting it. |
A mixture of aqua clear and black colour powder was brushed on the inside of the shape. Two coats were necessary to get complete cover. Clear plastic allows colours to be applied on each side - you don't have to wait for one colour to dry because the other colour doesn't touch it. |
Here is the stage prop ready to be cut around the edge. Notice the multi-colour effect, with the iridescent colour standing out against a black background. |
In order to show the stage prop doing its job - concealing a technician - an 'action man' toy was photographed in position. It didn't matter that he was 'too big', the image can be cropped. |
Here is the finished product. An image was selected from a Google Image search for 'pyrotechnics', altered a bit and the stage prop image put on each side. This image, as well as the one above with the technician in place, will be presented to the review panel.
